Lash FAQs

Tell Me about Lash Extensions –

Eyelash Extensions are an exciting way to enhance the eye by extending the length and thickness of your eyelashes. Silk, Synthetic or Genuine Mink lashes are individually applied with a medical grade adhesive to your natural lash. The result is longer, fuller, lush looking lashes.

Are these similar to what the Hollywood celebrities are wearing?

Yes, they are weightless, feel and look like real lashes.

How long is the procedure?

Depending on the type of lash set you choose they can take anywhere from 1.5 to 2.5 hours. Re – lash appointments are usually 1 hour.

Will I damage my own natural Eyelashes?

No, when applied correctly, lash extensions will not have an adverse effect on your natural lashes. However, if the diameter (or thickness) of the extension is too thick, damage can occur – thinning, downward growth or premature loss. Our Mantra at Occhi’ is, “We never compromise the integrity of your own lash, our goal is to improve your lash cycles and growth not inhibit.” Therefore, we will recommend supplements and products to maintain the health of your lashes and never use lashes that are too heavy or use too much glue as a way of giving you volume.

Are the extensions glued to my skin?

No, lash extensions are applied 1-2mm away from the skin and attached directly to the natural lash. At no point should the adhesive ever touch the skin.

How often do I need a Re-Lash or fill?

Everyone varies.   Lashes cycle through every 25-45 days. As your natural lashes shed so will your extensions, therefore Re-Lashes are recommended every 3-4 weeks.

Can I still wear makeup?

Yes, however, only Oil-Free make-up remover should be used. Oil’s will ‘break down’ the adhesive causing your extensions to fall out prematurely. If you will be wearing eyeliner, avoid gels in pots and pencils. They contain oil and wax that can break down the adhesive. We recommended using a cake eye shadow that can be applied wet.

Can I use mascara?

There is no need to wear mascara on your eyelash extensions. Never, ever use waterproof mascara, as it is harmful to your extensions. Mascara may be worn on your lower lashes.

Can I use an eye lash curler?

No, do not use a mechanical lash curler, crimping the lashes will break the bond of the adhesive and break the lashes.

Is a professional license required?

Yes, semi- permanent lash extensions are a professional salon service, performed by cosmetologists, aestheticians or eye-lash specialty licenses. Regulated by individual State Boards.

Can I swim?

Your eyelash extensions will resist water, sweat and tears. For the best possible results we recommend the use of goggles.

Are you able to remove and repair poorly applied lashes?

Yes, a consultation is mandatory regarding treatment options. Often times, the bad lash work must be removed to apply a new perfect set.

I pull out my natural lashes, can I replace them with lash extensions?

Lash extensions can only be applied to the lashes that you have. A consultation with options is recommended.

Can I remove the lashes myself?

No, this should only be done by a professional to prevent damaging your natural lashes. Removal generally takes 20 -30 minutes.

How do I care for my lash extensions?

Avoid getting your lashes wet for first 24 hours. Avoid Steam Showers, facial steamers and swimming pools for 24 hours. NO perming of eyelashes after extensions are applied Cleanse your eyes with an Oil Free makeup remover.   Oil based products will affect the adhesive, causing your lash extensions to fall out prematurely. The use of Sterilid or Occusoft is recommended applied with a q-tip at night after removing make-up. These are Cleansers designed for eyelid use and are anti-bacterial and anti-viral to prevent infection.   After cleaning, brush your lashes with a clean mascara wand from the base to the tip while rolling the wand. Support your lashes using your finger, curling them in an upward motion.

What about exercise?

If you exercise please clean your eyelids immediately after as oil and sweat will affect the lash extensions. You should always wear a headband while exercising.

How do I prepare for my appointment?

Please arrive 20 minutes prior to your appointment with clean, makeup free lashes. Avoid caffeine for two hours prior. Contact lenses must be removed as well.

What is appointment etiquette?

Arrive early – allow ample time (20mins.) to check in, fill out client forms and relax before your lash experience. Be courteous – turn off or silence your cell phone during your appointment. Please do not bring children. Contacts must be removed prior to your appointment. Keep talking to a minimum during your treatment session.
